Very good point, Shawn. I hadn't considered judging standards. You made an even better point about the nature of art and judging/judgment. Perhaps that's the reason some people don't enter shows...their clientele preference does not agree with that of jurors. It would seem that the purchase revenue replaces show awards and circumvents the entire judging standards issue. Great subject for endless discussion. The bottom line is just opinion, as you infer. But without structure, what are we?! I ponder...
