I have not commented before on any writing but thought I'd post my thoughts on there being no need for a focal point. In my opinion, this subject represents a larger topic encountered recently in art shows with "contemporary" work that doesn't follow general art guidelines. The topic surfaced because this style of art is exhibited and judged along side traditional work. I understand the nature of art involves freedom to express as one chooses and with that in mind, I enjoy a wide variety of creative endeavors. However, viewing art with no focal point could mean other standards for evaluation have been discarded. If there are no standards for evaluation, than how does one judge art? Are show awards given to those brave enough to not follow the rules? Perhaps what is being said is that viewers should not be judgmental in any way...not sure. How does one handle art presented that doesn't follow the general standards/rules of creating a masterpiece? These are thoughts to consider...I ponder them quite a bit.
