I agree totally with your comment, Ian, that art is purely subjective and personal. As a member of a co-op gallery in my home town, I have opportunities when I am working to notice people walk by some art and concentrate on other pieces. It is interesting to see which pieces draw the most attention and even more interesting to me to see what kind of attention my own paintings get. I believe that when a person buys a piece of art it is because it causes some emotion to arise within them. If you enter art in a juried show, more often than not the juror picks the pieces that speak most to him/her.
