Here is a quick, en plein air sketch. With great 'originality' I call it Two Trees. Forgive the sarcasm.
The past couple of weeks have been crazy with the house renovation and moving my studio. I have been able to get a little art done, but nothing very exciting. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to paint, or why. It is death for artists not to know who they are, why they want to create art, and where they want to be in the future.

Cold Forge is a watercolor on 140 lb Arches paper. I saw this "old cowboy" in Columbia, CA. He was working in the blacksmith shop in this historic tourist town.

This is going to be my new art studio. The patio doors were there originally, but not the windows. I'm planning to put my easel by the left window. Looks like I won't move in until sometime after Thanksgiving.

I have difficulty remembering, mainly because of a busy life style and multitasking. Last week I really messed things up.
Friends and I usually take turns delivering and picking up paintings we have going to art shows.
I was delivering a painting for the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club exhibit in New York. When I got to the National Arts Club, I discovered that I was a whole month early! What a waste of time! I looked at my calendar when I got home, and it turns out I had entered the date in the wrong month.

Here is the last of my complementary colors exercise. The exercise has been very freeing. This one is 7x5 inches, also in watercolor.
There has been a great deal of controversy about painting en plein air (outside, on site) or in the studio. Studio painters prefer working in their studios, using photographs they took themselves as their reference. Plein air painters say studio painting isn’t really working and can’t result in good art. There are pros and cons for both, let’s take a look at them:
