I was sitting in the dentist’s waiting room this morning, waiting for my turn, when I began this post. I was actually writing in longhand on lined paper! Something some schools aren’t even teaching any more. When I was a teenager (about 100 years ago) I worked at a movie theater in California. I was one of the girls who walked around with flashlights telling everyone to get their feet off the seats. Some of you will remember those days, and some won’t. The website of Essex Watercolor Club has a “Fabulous Fakes” exhibit, the paintings all done by club members. The exhibit took me to thoughts of art forgery, why some artists resort to forgery, and how they go about the process of faking a painting and how they get the necessary documents to pass the art work off as original. Honey has a nice trim shape and gets around good for a man of his years. As for myself… well, let’s say life and chocolate have taken their toll. Shapes in art are a whole lot easier to take care of than our physical shapes.
When designing a painting, the shapes are two-dimensional and either organic or geometric. Organic shapes are capricious and irregular, free and spontaneous.
