Artists never stop learning. If they do, they aren’t trying, working or growing as artists. They might as well quit dancing, sculpting, writing, painting or doing whatever art form they practice. I was invited to paint at a nursery. That is where I was when I painted this bromeliad. It was lovely there among all the plants. Ask if you can paint at your local nursery.
Once again, I am writing from my hotel room. I’m taking another workshop tomorrow, and really looking forward to it. Honey didn’t come with me, so I have a room and king size bed all to myself. I painted this tree en plein air. It wasn't blue, pink or green, but brown. I was just having that kind of day.
Working en plein air (painting outside) is invaluable in the growth of an artist. The best paintings are emotional responses to what you see, and as the painter, you get to look at nature and change it in any way you want. The scene goes in your head, traverses your emotions and comes out through your hands, more interesting and exciting than the actual scene. Honey and I share our woods with bears, or better spoken, the bears share their woods with us. Not long ago, my grandchildren and I sat on the deck watching a mother bear teach her two cubs to climb a tree. It was amazing to see her patience and gentleness in teaching them, as well as her methods.
